Storage & Packing Tips:
Tip #1 - Make packing easier by planning ahead. Make sure that you have plenty of sturdy boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape & furniture covers. Make sure that boxes are tightly sealed with packing tape to prevent dust from entering the boxes. Label all boxes clearly for easy identification. Make sure boxes containing fragile items are marked.
Tip #2 - Wrap furniture legs to prevent scratching. Keep slip-covers on upholstered chairs and cover them with plastic chair covers. Tape or tie bed rails together. Mark the pieces for easy assembly later. Place covers or plastic bags on mattresses to keep them clean during storage.
Tip #3 - Use all extra space. Utilize all the space you can, including dresser drawers and inside large appliances to store linens, towels and small fragile items. Secure items in drawers by using wadded up newspaper, towels or bubble wrap to fill empty spaces.
Tip #4 - Store items you'll need first at the front of the unit. Items such as vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies & towels should be stored in the front of the unit. When you get ready to move into your new place, you'll want these items so you can use them before you move furniture and boxes in.
Tip #5 - Make a center aisle in your unit. Try to arrange the items in your unit where you can leave a small walkway in the middle, so that you have access to the rear of the unit without unpacking the entire unit.
Tip #6 - Don't place boxes directly on the concrete floor. Use pallets or skids to help keep the air circulating around and under items.
Tip #7 - Metal items tend to rust. When storing metal items, before placing them in the storage unit, wipe them with a cloth containing a few drops of machine oil.
Tip #8 - Use trash cans to store stand-alone items. Items such as shovels, rakes, fishing poles & curtain rods can be stored upright to save space and prevent damage.
Tip #9 - Use high quality locks. Disc locks are what we recommend, and we have them available in the leasing office.
Tip #10 - Use common sense. State laws and site regulations determine what can be stored in your unit. Do not store firearms, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, live animals, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquids and fuels, toxic materials or other items that need a controlled environment.
